Fun in the sun at the Alexandra’s Summer Fair

Sunday saw our Alexandra Care Home with Nursing hold their Summer Fair. Despite 30 days of continuous rain preceding the event, almost miraculously, the sun came out an hour before the fair started, helping to create a fantastic atmosphere for staff, residents and visitors.

An estimated 250 people attended the event, including off duty staff, the loved ones of residents, businesses that support the care home and those providing entertainment.

Entertainment included Roger the singer, the Salvation Army Band, stocks, a bouncy castle, an ice-cream van and the well-received appearance of Bispham fire officers with their gleaming red tender. There were also stands selling bric-a-brac, cakes, burgers & hotdogs, a well-stocked tombola and a raffle.

A special mention should be made of the home’s maintenance man, Ian, who baked some wonderful cakes and his stand completely sold out, as did all the fast food the Alexandra’s cooks brought out of the kitchen.

In total, £1,091 was raised towards Alexandra residents’ trips and entertainment. This is more than double the expectation before the day.

Activities Coordinators, Ian, Chantelle and Deborah are to be congratulated for their energy and enthusiasm, galvanising their colleagues within the home to make the event the success it was.

Registered Manager, Kerry says, ‘I am so proud of what Ian and the team have achieved. The support from staff and the loved ones of residents attending was brilliant. We were lucky with the weather, which helped make the vibe on the day incredibly uplifting.  Everyone had smiles on their faces and joined in the fun. I think the atmosphere reflects the direction the Alexandra has taken over the last year or so, as we build a team who want to be part of a great care home!’
