Meet Mr Social Care

The Bayswood Care Group welcomes Adam Purnell to the new role of Group Quality Assurance & Compliance Manager. Adam joins the group with sixteen years social care experience, having started in the industry at the tender age of eighteen.

Talking to Adam, it is clear he lives and breathes the industry and contributes both as an industry spokesperson / influencer and, through his new role at Bayswood, is back at the coalface, which is where he loves to be. Adam had been out of frontline social care for two years while he collaborated to create several professional working partnerships at a local and national level, including representing regulated providers at ICS workforce meetings, contributing to ICS wide information events, and providing peer support at the events.

Adam says, ‘I enjoy being at the heart of promoting positive messages about our industry, but it was important for me to return to the nitty-gritty of social care and implement meaningful changes that I am directly accountable for. My role at the Bayswood Care Group is a fantastic opportunity to do just that.’

Adam is passionate about the industry and says, ‘I started in social care after witnessing the amazing care my dad was receiving during his ill health. By the time I was 21 I was in my first managerial role. I have a true dedication for social care, primarily the care of our aging population, and during the COVID-19 pandemic I worked and campaigned with other managers and groups to ensure our most vulnerable were supported in a person-led way.’

In his spare time Adam’s involvement in the industry extends to his ‘The Caring View’ podcast. The show provides a platform for everybody working in or drawing on social care and aims to both educate on and celebrate the industry. The Caring View is livestreamed every Tuesday at 19:30. Adam says, ‘The Caring View is a great platform to talk to the sector’s thought leaders, so that we can work towards breaking down some of the barriers and stigma attached to social care.’

With so much going on, it is a wonder that Adam has any time left for anything else, but he reveals that to relax he is a ‘crafter’ – including sewing, knitting and candle making within his home workshop. ‘I love my workshop – It’s my sanctuary,’ Adam reveals.

Bayswood Care Group Managing Director, Amar Singh, says, ‘We are delighted to welcome Adam on board. Adam brings with him a wealth of knowledge into the Group. He is widely respected within the industry; and I’d go as far as to say he is “Mr Social Care” to many out there. His ideals and vision for how care homes should be run and providing person-centric care aligns closely with ours. We are all looking forward to working with Adam as we strive to continually improve Bayswood’s social care provision.’
