The importance of activities
Brambles is the name of our Alexandra Care Home’s specialist dementia unit. The Alexandra also has a unit called Brooklands, which looks after residents with less advanced dementia. The units have wonderful activities coordinators who ensure that residents’ have access to pastimes that break up routine and add interest to their lives. Activities are constructed to be accessible within the varying degrees of capacity our residents have – so there is something for everyone.
Activities range from therapeutic activities, beauty treatments, providing reading materials, arts, bringing in pets, crafts, social dining, through to music, films, and exercises. Most seeing this post will take the majority of these experiences for granted, but for some residents, even having a cup of tea in a formal setting is actually a big deal.
At the heart of the activities is the desire to give our residents something very important – their dignity!
If you have questions about the units and their activities, please go to the home’s page on this website and fill in the request form.
