You’re the one that I want
For one afternoon it’s not the Alexandra Care Home – it's California 1958 and greaser Danny Zuko and Australian Sandy Olsson are in love. They spend time at the beach, and when they go back to school, what neither of them knows is that they both now attend Rydell High.
The Alexandra Care Home’s activities co-ordinator, Ian, decided to bring the musical about teens in love in the 1950s to the residents and staff. For this week’s Well-being Wednesday, Ian took a trolley laden with cola floats and chips around the building.
Going that extra mile to entertain residents and giving staff a boost, Ian delivered the American style treats to the lounge, bedrooms and Alexandra offices. Dancing and singing along to songs from Grease must be a national pastime, because nearly everyone joined in with the fun – and knew most the words!
Alexandra’s Registered Manager, Kerry Howell says, ‘We like to encourage laughter and fun at work, and I introduced “Well-being Wednesdays” into the Alexandra to help give both residents and staff a mid-week boost. Our dedicated team work extremely hard to deliver a superb quality of care to residents, so Wednesday treats are as much for staff as they are for those whose home this is. It’s important to acknowledge the fantastic work all the staff do here, and the entertainment allows the them to join in with the fun Ian is bringing into the home for residents.’
It's great to see the caring team ‘Hopelessly Devoted’ to making residents smile. And, when it comes to care homes, residents will always say ‘You’re the one that I want’ to the Alexandra Care Home with Nursing.
